
This is a particularly large tamarack tree in front of my parents' cabin. It is also rather unusual in that these things usually grow in areas that are sort of standing water. This one is some kind of mutant growing on relatively dry ground. The cabin is not visible, just on the other side of these trees. Tamaracks are a kind of conifer, but they are odd in that they lose their needles in the winter. Here you can see the tree in it's "fall colors". Note all the other leaves are gone already; they don't shed until around late November or later, if I recall. closer look of the same tree available.
